Developmental Editing: $150 + $3.50 per page

This service is often the first step in the editing process. It applies to writers looking for a detailed professional review, or to those who are "stuck" on some aspect of their work. It also applies to manuscripts that are in rough draft form, including those still in progress. We will look at the "big picture" of your manuscript, identifying scenes or sections that are working well, as well as those that should be expanded, reduced, or eliminated. We will identify awkwardly written passages and inconsistencies or contradictions.

For fiction manuscripts, we can help with things like plot, character development, pacing, composition, and more. For non-fiction manuscripts, we can help with organization, strengthening arguments and supporting evidence, ensuring appropriateness for intended audience, and more. Please be aware that we may be unable to provide this service for some non-fiction manuscripts that are highly technical or deal with a subject matter with which we have no familiarity.

The $150 developmental editing fee will be applied toward the total balance of more concentrated editing services if you continue to work with Red Pen for Rent.
