Substantive Editing: $475 (first 50 pages), then $4 per page

Substantive editing looks at the foundation and the meat of your manuscript, evaluating what works and what doesn't. We'll make sure your text is well-organized, readable, and intelligible. Like developmental editing, substantive editing looks at the big picture, but in a more focused way. Think of it as something of a cross between developmental and copy editing, often mixed with varying degrees of light ghostwriting.

This service is for manuscripts that are in a final draft stage but require greater editorial assistance than that provided by copy editing. We will evaluate your manuscript from a holistic standpoint, looking at the content, organization, and presentation of your complete text. We will look at aspects such as continuity, repetition, awkward or confusing language, and more.

This service may also include reorganization and/or rewriting at the sentence or paragraph level. We will ensure internal consistency in facts and point of view. We will ensure that your content is presented consecutively, unless it is a fictional work in which the plot intentionally backtracks. We will additionally produce a style sheet for your manuscript.
